If you receive a message "Initializing the Root Folders to Display" and a delay when opening a Word/Excel doc, check your mapped drives. Probably one or more of the drives is disconnected/inaccessible. Use the command
net use
to view your mapped drives, and
net use <drive letter>: /d
to remove a mapped drive.
